Chocolate Hazelnut Cake

I made this cake for a dinner party that my mama was throwing the other night…. and it was a HUGE hit!  By a hit, I mean, it disappeared within seconds of leaving the oven.  So then I had to make another one the next day…and then another one the week after for my brother’s birthday party.

Basically, you need to make this cake.  Tonight.  Right now.  Just drop whatever you are doing, and go bake this cake.

Seriously though, what is better than the heavenly combination of chocolate and hazelnut?  Nothing.  No pairing in this world can be more perfect.  They are a gorgeous couple.  A fantastic duo.  Magnificent partners-in-crime.  Working together, they exponentially increase my waistline at the speed of light.

But that’s okay.  I can handle it.  And so can you. So make the cake already!  What are you waiting for?!?!?

I got this recipe from a blog named bake or break….an absolutely stunning blog with beautiful pictures.  So beautiful that I think you can gain weight by just staring at the pictures…. I starred at those pictures for at least 20 minutes straight.  I had difficulty putting on my pants the next day….

I modified the recipe a little, mainly because I could not find ground hazelnuts anywhere in this crazy town.  So instead I used whole hazelnuts and ground almonds to make the cake.  But for the original recipe, please click here!

You may have noticed by comparing the Bake or Break photos with mine, I used a slightly different chocolate topping.  While thin, delicate chocolate syrup was used in the original recipe, I used  a thick, creamy chocolate gnache… because I needed it in my life.  Please ignore me.

Hope you enjoy this cake!  It’s glorious.  And it will make your life better.  I promise.
